Birra Eretica was founded in 2011 in Ornago, a small town in the province of Monza Brianza. It was founded by three friends with a passion for beer: Luciano Parolini, Paolo Piazza, and Ilario Limonta.

Birra Eretica is an unfiltered and unpasteurised beer, made just with water, malt, and hops, without any spices or flavouring. Its name, sticky and hard to forget, translates as Heretic Beer and comes from the very first location of its brewery: the town of Concorezzo, said to be home to one of the most important heretic sects in the Middle Ages. Furthermore, the word “heresy” comes from Ancient Greek with a meaning of “to choose”: a perfect connotation for this new artisanal beer.

Their motto comes from this, too: “heretic is the one who researches, tests, tastes, evaluates and then chooses... to drink our beer!” At the moment their production comprises 14 types of beer, with high or low fermentation styles, with references to the traditional German, Belgian, and British repertoires, that have won a grand total of 4 national prizes in Italy: the winners were the beers Eclisse in 2013, Balurdon in 2016, and Luppolina and Ornagher in 2017.
