There are many stories about the origin of this drink. As its colour is similar to iced tea and therefore disguising its true alcohol content, many claim that the origin of LONG ISLAND dates back to the Prohibition era. More probably, it was created in the late 1970s by Robert (Rosebud) Butt at Oak Beach Inn in Babylon, New York, that is in the Long Island area. By the early 1980s anyway, this drink became incredibly popular.
